As my company grows into its toddler years I thought it may be beneficial to chronicle what happens behind the scenes of a mom-run small business.  In the midst of being a busy mom to two boys ages almost 5 and almost 3, in addition to working full time, and being a Navy spouse things can get so out of hand and so extremely busy I wonder how I find time to breath. Does anyone out there ever feel like that?  Oh and did I mention I’m completing my Bachelor’s degree too…yup 4 classes to go! Phew exhausted just going over it all.

So my company Stick Me Designs produces and designs stylish, functional and moder diabetes accessories. I design each and every piece that makes its way to the web shop. I have found contractors in China, New York and Colorado to assist us with production costs, and I’m currently in talks to have a  new collection possibly made with a contractor in Pakistan.

So my goal is to not only bring fresh, modern stylish accessories to people living with diabetes, but to also provide a sole outlet for me to spread my creative wings and take my company to the next level.  So how does a one-woman show go about this?

Good question… While I love the price breaks with having our bags made abroad, sometimes it’s difficult to make those minimum requirements.  So I’ll go with our US manufacturer, but then our order are smaller which run the risk of selling out pretty quickly.  Arrgh.

But at the end of the day, when I get an email that says, ” I was just diagnosed last week with diabetes and my endocrinologist recommended you” I gush with pride and rainbows.

What does it all mean? It means that:

Being a mom is hard work
Running a business is hard work
Being a Navy Wife is hard work

and in the end my goal is that all the sacrifice and hard work is totally worth it in the end…I have no doubt it will be!

Well at least Stick Me Designs is. This is our 3rd year in business and I’ve held on through the upstart which I still feel like I’m in at times, and we’re still holding strong this tough economy. But with growth comes lessons learned and new creations, ideas and maturity.

We’ve had many customers come to us and ask for a mature, grown-up collection of bags that caters to those who enjoy color yes, but also like a bit of sophistication and chic-ness with their diabetes style.  Sophistication and diabetes accessories haven’t quite hit the mainstream but we hope to change that with a new line of designs titled ‘Krimson’.  The Krimson line will be a modern, sophisticated take on our fresh functional diabetes bags, cases and accessories.

With modern edge, flair and design the Krimson collection will feature bold fabrics, functional thoughtful design, and modern sophisticate style.

We’ll show you a spy prototype shot because you rock if you’re reading this :

Well we’ve been MIA, dontcha know! So I wanted to check back in with my blog readers and give you the latest scoop. Well lots of family stuff has found it’s way into my blog, business, social time. My youngest son fractured his little wrist. Poor lil guy’s only 3 and he’s been so good about it.  We had to take him to patient first and they put this tiny little cast on his arm, and now we’re scheduled for a orthopedics follow up this week to see if it is a continuing break or just a buckle fracture. 

And then my hubby had to leave for a while for the Navy, which is always so hard because then I have to run  everything and that in most cases means that my ’social’ stuff for SMD get’s put on the back burner, but rightfully so I think. My little guys needed me and I happily put them first. 

So now that we’re working to getting back to normal, I’m chiming in to let you know what’s been going on here.  

We’ve been invited to casting calls for two ‘mompreneur’/ inventor shows one from ABC, and the other from TLC! Yeah I know right two?? Go figure, so in between filling orders, tending to injured little ones, dinner, laundry, web stuff, work and a zillion other things I’ve been putting together casting videos on why I HAVE Need to be on these upcoming shows!  Just an appearance would be a huge boost to the SMD awareness and that would be a huge blessing.

So I’ve been ‘talking’ about the new messengers for oh what 4-5 months now?? Well until we worked out some design element kinks and got the pricing points figured out, we are now working on the fun stuff. The fresh design element of the whole collection!  Yup the ’switch-able’ designer flaps, that will with the flick of your wrist (well a bit more than that) will transform your new diabetes messenger into whole new bag!!

Why buy one bag, get sick of the way it looks,  go searching for another [expensive] bag that will stylishly hold your diabetes supplies and whatever else you need in a day?  Well you now won’t have to! You can grab your Switch Me Messenger ‘body’ and then pick from an ample array of colorful, stylish and bold flaps to satisfy your style sweet fancy*  And for this new collection we will include styles for guys, gals, little guys and little gals. Even the style savvy parent who like many others, is the main supply transporter for their little one(s).

We’re even working on having the option of custom flaps. Yeah you pick the fabric, ship it to us and viola your new flap will be shipped back! And…even possibly ‘design your own’. You start with a blank black or white canvas and you can doodle, draw sketch till your hearts content. For all you creative types out there who can never really satisfy the need for change, or who just can’t find the exact form of expression!
