After becoming pregnant with her second son, founder and designer of Stick Me Designs Rickina Velte, prayed her pregnancy would be smooth sailing just as her first was. All too quickly she found the saying " every pregnancy is different" to be painfully true. During her 7th month of pregnancy she was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes. After finally accepting this part of her pregnancy, she realized that this too could be turned into something positive in her life.
Although Gestational Diabetes in most cases goes away after deliver, you're still required to check your blood sugar levels several times a day. This means carrying around all the necessary supplies to do so no matter where you go. And it also means carrying around the very bland black nylon bag that comes with your new glucose meter. For Rickina this bag was just not acceptable, it got lost in the bottom of her purse, and for goodness sake it did not match her up-beat and colorful personality, not to mention it screams hey look at me I'm sick.
It was after this realization that she began looking for a unique alternative. One that was suited just for glucose testing meters and was stylish and fun to carry around everyday. An exhaustive search tuned up grim results, it was then she knew this could be a great idea for others looking for the same thing.
After countless emails, phone calls, many prayers and leaps of faith, Stick Me Designs has evolved from a flicker of an idea to a promise of bringing style to diabetics and others who suffer from an illness that requires constant monitoring and testing, or anyone who wants to carry personal items but still want to look stylish and modern.
"My hopes are that our designs will fill a much needed void where style and medical necessity come together", says Stick Me Designs founder Rickina Velte.
